Municipal Network for Energy Efficiency

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Alliance to Save Energy are developing a program, the Municipal Networkfor Energy Efficiency (MUNEE) -- www.munee.org -- to disseminate low-cost energy efficiency experiences around Central and Eastern Europe so that cities can learn from each other how best to improve their infrastructure and encourage their citizens to use energy more wisely.
The goal of MUNEE is to design and implement innovative energy efficiency policies and identify barriers to their successful adoption.
MUNEE is strengthening the capacity of regional and municipal stakeholders to develop and attract financing for energy efficiency projects. If cities in this region could reduce their energy costs from 33 percent to 10-15 percent, one could imagine the resources that would be freed up for investments in education and other social services.

Canadian Urban Institute

The Canadian Urban Institute (CUI) is a non-profit organizationdedicated to enhancing the quality of life in urban areas in Canada and internationally.?As an independent body, the Institute meets the need for a think-tank committed to improving policy making, governance and management in urban regions by encouraging a better understanding of contemporary urban issues among communities, business, government and other key institutions.

Open Society Institute

The OSI Information Program supports projects for the equitable deployment of knowledge and communication resources - providing access to content, tools and networks - for civic empowerment and democratic governance. The activities of the program are conducted in the following areas:

1. Information Policy; investment in infrastructure data rights and civil liberties access to public-sector information
2. Global Consortium Development (eIFL)
3. ICT toolsets for Civil Society and Governance
4. Civic Networking and ICT Support
5. Local Community Informatics

The program is not primarily an information technology program. Its mission is social. Technology is an important tool for achieving this mission, but not the only one; the program uses the most appropriate combination of new and traditional media, as well as policy advocacy, training and institution-building, to pursue this mission.

United Nations ILO Delnet program

Delnet is a Programme of the International Training Centre of the ILO, a specialized agency of the United Nations System. The purpose of Denet is to support local development and decentralization processes which are occurring in various parts of the world by promoting local capacity building through training, information, technical advice and networking.

DelNet offers the following services to more than 500 institutions in 35 countries and territories:

• Training: upgrading the capacities of human and institutional resources at the local level in order to improve the management of the local development processes.
• Information: facilitating the access of individuals and institutions to international information and experience.
• Technical Advice: providing technical assistance to local projects and programmes.
• Networking: Delnet is an instrument through which knowledge, information, ideas and experience concerning local development in a globalized context can be shared.

Through the use of the latest Information and Communication Technologies Delnet tries to facilitate networking among local development actors, providing them with a forum for sharing their experience.
